Estimate 37 392 people. Gender 53% Female. Race 89% Black, 2% Indian and 8% White. Less than 10% of the District Population


The unemployment rate is estimated at 67%. The average annual income is R15 000.00. An estimated 61% is employed in the informal sector.


The total number of households is 10 927—informal dwellings 1.1%. Complete household ownership 68%. 


Education levels of grade 9 and higher are estimated at 70.6%. Matric or higher is 41.5%. Tertiary education is estimated at 6% and higher.

Service Delivery

An estimated 71.2% of the population gets water from Jojo Tanks, and 47% from piped water. Access to electricity 71%. About 62% have access to flush toilets, 2.1% have no access to any toilets and the rest have chemical toilets. Refuse disposal 57.2%.


The total number with access to the internet from cell phones is at a high of 38%. Only 8% have access to the internet in their dwelling. 30%+ have no access to the internet.

Dr Hlula Dladla, Municipal Manager

The Office of the Municipal Manager is responsible for the Internal Audit as well as the IDP/PMS, Communication,
Legal, Risk Management and Compliance, Disaster Management, Fleet Management, and Messenger.


Mr Pitso Molefe, Chief Finance Officer

Responsible ensuring transparency, accountability and sound financial management. This means
ensuring that: all statutory requirements adhere to monthly management reports, National Treasury in-year
monitoring reports and annual financial statements

Mr M.E Sithole, GM Corporate & Community Services

Responsibilities includes Community Facilities, Libraries, Museum, Tourism, Local Economic
Development, Traffic/Law Enforcement, Youth, Employment Recruitment, Skills Development, Human Resources
related issues, Committee/Secretary, Records Management, Municipal Building, Receptionist, Information
Technology, and enhanced administrative system.
